DFW Wildlife Coalition’s New Wildlife Speaker’s Bureau
by Sandy Dean

It’s like a dream come true.  Thanks to the commitment and hard work of several individuals, the DFW Wildlife Coalition’s speaker’s bureau, “WildSpeak!” is almost a reality!

The Coalition has a presence at many outreach events throughout the year, manning booths at programs such as EagleFest and The Arlington Home and Garden Show.  We speak to neighborhood homeowners' associations, Cub Scout meetings, and Master Naturalist programs.  We give presentations to animal control officers and garden clubs.  In short, we already had an “ad hoc” speaker’s bureau, but now we are becoming “official.” Professional PowerPoint presentations are being put together on the topics of mammals, reptiles, and birds.

Each presentation will feature the species’ natural history, urban ecology information, and coexistence considerations.  The goal is to empower the public with the information and know-how to successfully manage and deal with urban wildlife issues. The presentations are intended to be fun and interactive and will be tailored to various audience age levels, from kindergarten to adults.

WildSpeak! will make its debut in February.  Several events have already been scheduled, so watch for future announcements on our website!

WildSpeak! committee members include Rose Banzhaf, Diane Baxter, Rhonda Burkhardt, Michele Dudas, Beverly Guthrie, Beth Hickman, Valerie Marler, Kathy Milacek, Scarlet Nicewarmer, Kristi Ontiveros, Karla Vargas, and George Veazey.
